Hey, everybody. Small Business Stacey. I’m sure you’ve heard of Stephen Covey, and probably even read some of his books, but he has some amazing words of wisdom that I think way too many small business owners forget.

He has a saying that “the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing”. I love this saying because too many small business owners just get caught up in shiny object syndrome, and they don’t focus on keeping the main thing the main thing. So I want to share with you today three strategies to help you do this.

1. Number one is to evaluate your current situation.

Are you hanging around with Negative Nannies? I mean, do you really know what’s going to get you excited and get out of bed, and are you hanging around people who support you and motivate you and get you moving towards the goals that you want to accomplish? So evaluate your current situation so that you can know what is and isn’t working to help you make the main thing the main thing.

If you’re walking down the right path… eventually you’ll make progress

2. Strategy number two is to make it part of your daily routine.

You see, you need to be visual. You need to be able to see and almost feel like the main thing that’s the main thing is completely real for you. So I’ve talked about this in previous videos. Maybe it’s a bucket list. Maybe it’s a vision board. But you need to visualize the main thing every single day. So from the moment that you get up to the moment you go to bed, you know what you’re working for and you’re going to be excited and motivated to achieve it.

3. Strategy number three is to create a to-don’t list.

Things that you don’t or are not going to do, things that will keep you from achieving the main thing. Write them down, scratch them off, and don’t do them. So do you have a strategy for making the main thing the main thing? Or how do you keep the main thing the main thing? I’d love to hear from you, because I know this is a topic that’s so important to small business owners, keeping them productive and motivated.
