Marketing in 2 Minutes or Less:3 Hardest Words To Say That Can Impact Your Marketing Results
Hey everybody, “Small Business Stacey” officially with my name badge here with Alex Saenger of Keller Williams. He’s a realtor here in the Washington DC area, and I am interviewing Alex today because we are talking about pie.
And this is not just a pie. This is a huge pie.
Hang on. That one has stuff on it. We’ve got pumpkin pie and we’ve got apple pie. And do you want to know a secret?
I want to know all your secrets.
Guess where we got these from? Costco. You don’t have to spend expensive money to get great pies.
It is a big pie.
Delicious. They’re large and delicious.
So Costco does things big but so does Alex because his marketing is phenomenal, which is why I wanted to talk to him. Alex, tell me about this annual pie giveaway that you’ve been doing.
Sure. So the premise behind the annual pie giveaway is really it… quite frankly, it’s not my idea. In real estate, we have what we like to call our R&D department, which is rip-off and duplicate. So everything that we do, just about, is something that somebody else came up with. With a few exceptions. The pie giveaway is actually something that one of Brian Buffini’s clients came up with as one of their events. And it’s kind of swept the nation as far as the real estate industry is concerned. And if you do a quick pan around real quick, you can see kind of show everybody.
Yeah, this is great. They’re serving. You can come in, mingle.
Pies everywhere. And so here’s the deal. So I myself, I only have like maybe 30-40 pies to actually give out today. And so what we do is I invite other agents in the office to do it with me. And the reason for that is because I, quite frankly, I don’t like necessarily doing the decorations and stuff like that and setting up the tables. So it was great because I could divide and conquer. It was my way of getting additional resources in that don’t cost me any money, which is great.
And the other thing is when you come in, you don’t necessarily know who’s with whom. And so from your perspective, if an agent only has five pies to give away, they are still part of this big event and their clients are like, “Wow, this is quite a thing.” And so it’s really a neat way to do a big event and have a lot of people without necessarily you having to spend a lot of money and have a lot of people.
Events are a great way to meet and greet, shake hands. And I really commend Alex because he’s not doing it just for his top customers, clients, or patients. He’s doing it to everybody. He’s marketing to everybody because I haven’t bought or sold real estate yet with Alex. But guess who I’m going to think of first when I need to do that. Right?
So the other thing is that he’s not doing typical realtor marketing. The calendar, the magnet, right?
THE HOLIDAY SEASON IS A PERFECT TIME TO REFLECT ON OUR BLESSING! AND SEEK OUT WAYS TO MAKE LIFE BETTER FOR THOSE AROUND US.
That’s right. We don’t really. We have done that stuff. The grocery store shopping cart thing, complete waste of money. Tried that, fail, epic fail. What we’ve discovered is that actually communicating with our people through social media is a big one, through email, direct emails, but not just your typical direct email. Really doing more like a MailChimp thing like we did for this. So we’ll actually put something out, video out promoting the event. We do a lot of video check us out. So the nice thing about this is that the pie event is really about the touches.
It’s about what?
So we get to, we get to left-hand shake because we are holding the mic. So we get to touch each other. But we’re touching each other multiple ways. Number one, I’m sending out something by email saying, “Hey, we have this event.” Number two, I’m sending you a text message saying, “Hey, we’re having this event.” Number three, I’m sending you another reminder email saying, “Hey, we have this event.’ Number four we’re sending snail mail, like physical mail and we’re actually sending something to their mail. And then of course when you come to the event, we get another touch. And then after the event, you’ll get a thank you from us that says, “Hey, thanks so much for coming.” It’s not about how many people actually come to the event, it’s how many touches you get to actually have with your database. And it’s just another way to keep you top of mind.
