Here’s a transcript of the video:
I’m a good customer of yours, but I’m slipping out the back door. Let’s talk about it.
I talk to a lot of small business owners, and you know what the biggest question they ask me about is? “Stacey, can you help me get more new customers, clients, and patients?” Well, yes, I can, but that’s the wrong question to ask. Unless you’re literally a brand new business starting out from scratch, you probably already have a list of customers, clients, and patients who know, like, and trust you. You’ve already done the hard work. You’ve spent the time, the effort, and the money to bring that customer in the door, so nurture that relationship, because that’s what it is, a relationship. Otherwise, you’re treating that person just like a transaction, in the door, out the door, and I know you don’t want those customers to go out the door. As my dad says, “it’s cheaper to keep ‘er.” The message is, focus on customer and client retention, because it is cheaper to keep ‘er.
Some customer retention strategies that you can use in your business: Try sending out a monthly newsletter. It’s a great way to keep your company front and center, and also share some success stories from customers, clients, or patients. I love using social media as a customer retention tool. It’s a great way to engage with people, and be social, and build a relationship. And I love little things that surprise and delight, and it doesn’t have to be expensive. It could be something as simple as a handwritten thank-you card, a special event for your VIP clients, or sending out a small little gift, like I do in my coffee and smoothie business. I send out things like a tiki cup and chapstick – things that don’t cost very much, but keep your name front and center, and make clients remember you.
Remember, it may be sexy to go out and do all this marketing to get new clients, customers, and patients, but the money is in the retention. My dad was right: it is cheaper to keep ‘er, and it keeps those customers from going out the back door. I’m Small Business Stacey, here to help you and your small business get your revenue over six figures, and help you become a #SmallBizMarketingWiz
