Your online front door, and the 16 elements you must have in place. Element #9.

Today, we’ll cover Element #9: trust elements. When someone visits your homepage, they are going to make a decision whether they feel that you are trustworthy or not. So you need to resonate with them that you are trustworthy, and you do this by showcasing customer testimonials, perhaps client logos, or badges. Let me share with you how you can use this element on your homepage.

Establishing a trust factor on your homepage is critical. It tells the visitor, “These guys know what they’re doing. So many other people trust them; I should, too.” Here’s three examples of how you can incorporate trust factors onto your homepage.

First, I’m going to share with you Buffer. I really like how they use both text and visual elements to establish trust. It’s one thing to say, “We’ve helped 3,000,000 people,” which in and of itself is a big trust factor, but when you add the visual element of showing lots of different people ─ men, women, black, white, casual, professional ─ it really reinforces the message.

Next is Tomedes, a translation service. On the top, they have some trust elements. But right below it, they show the companies that they’ve worked with. This is a great way to establish trust. If you’ve got some big names and/or recognizable people or companies that you’ve done business with, showcasing that on your homepage will really establish an extra level of trust.

And then, finally, is my coffee and smoothie homepage. I use a lot of different trust elements, because we’re a small business in a big city. I want visitors to know that they’re going to have a great experience when they book us. Here’s how I do that. I show the names of the big name companies that we’ve done catering for, and below that there’s lots of testimonials from our happy customers, all from different sites. And then below that are some awards and badges that reinforce that we’re trustworthy to do business with.

These examples I just shared show the different ways that you can incorporate trust elements into your online front door.

Incorporate trust elements onto your homepage, and make them easy to see so people say, “Yes, I trust this business.”
