Here’s the transcript:

Hey everybody, small business Stacey here. Digital Dave and I had to take a trip, and can you guess where we went?  Oh, I know. There’s no tricking you guys. Yes. We had to go to the big city. We were actually going to pick up a car for our son. So, we were actually only there for half a day, but we had so much fun, and we had so many marketing lessons learned. So I’m going to share with you one of those each day for the next five days.

Today is marketing lesson one, and that is to get away from it all. You need to take time away from your work. We all say, “Oh, I’m too busy, I’m too stressed, I can’t get away.” But you know what? You got to force yourself to do it. Dave and I, we took the Vamoos, which is a bus, up to New York City, and we got there early afternoon, and we just had so much fun spending time in the city.

We make sure that we schedule quality fun time because it’s so important for this, your mindset, and it’s not that you have to go away somewhere, but what you want to do is get away from the work, from the computer, from the phone and detach yourself.

KEEP YOUR HEAD CLEAR! IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW BRIGHT THE PATH IS IF YOUR MIND IS ALWAYS CLOUDY.

In my area, we live about one hour … it’s about one hour to go to a state park, and we go there practically every weekend in the spring because they have great hiking trails. They have kayaking. Digital Dave loves to fish, and now they have paddle boarding. If you go an hour east, there is my favorite place, the water, the beach, and I get to sit by the bridge, dip my toes in the sand, and it just like clears your mind. It’s so amazing how getting away can do that for you.

So, I know what you’re thinking, “Stacey, I can’t get away for a whole day.” Look, even if you can’t get away for a whole day, what if you were to do this: Block off three hours, go to a local coffee shop and just kind of bang out a marketing campaign. I used to do this, block out three hours on the fifth day of every month and that way nobody could interrupt me, and I found it to be just so productive. I could map out my planning, get it done, and even if you can’t do three hours, I bet you can do this. Get up off your chair and go walk around the block.

Look, you need to get away from all of these distractions and clear your mind. Schedule it into your calendar and do it. I guarantee you’ll feel so much better, and your marketing results will show for it.

What do you think? Leave me a comment below and make sure you tune in tomorrow for the second marketing lesson I learned in the big city.
