Content marketing. Does it make you want to run for the hills?

Content marketing: those two words can scare the bejeezers out of small and local business owners.

Why is that? Well when you think of content marketing, you’ve got to create content in many different places. There’s blogs, there’s video, there’s audio, there’s social media, there’s SlideShare, and on and on and on.

What happens is these small and local business owners come to me and say, “There’s just too many places to post this content.” What happens is, they either create really crappy content so they can just say that they’ve done it, or they just don’t do it at all.

I have one word for you that will solve that problem: repurposing.

Repurposing your content is a very smart marketing strategy that will save you time, effort, and money.

Let me share with you an example of how I do that in my business. For the Small Biz Marketing Specialist, each month I come up with a theme, a theme of what small and local business owners are asking about. Guess what this month’s theme is. Yep, content marketing.

Now all I have to do is produce one really good piece of content and then repurpose it. I can make a video. I can have that transcribed into a blog. Take the audio component and I have a podcast. Pull out some images or some great quotes, post it on social media, and highlight the top bullet points and create a SlideShare. Then I easily have a full month’s worth of content.

In my coffee and smoothie business I do the same thing. In the colder months I’ll focus on content that has to deal with coffee, espresso, and hot chocolate. When the weather’s warmer, I’ll focus on content that deals with smoothies, shave ice, and planning a luau party.

You just never know how and when someone’s going to come across your content, so it’s really important to repurpose it. All you need to do is come up with one great piece of content a month. Determine what people are asking you about and start with that.

My suggestion is to do a video first. I know many of you shy away from video, but if you want some tips on how to get started, visit SmallBizMarketingSpecialist.com/Episode18, where I give you some tips and tricks on how to do video. Once you have the video, you can easily repurpose it into other pieces of content.

I’d love to hear your success stories of how you’re repurposing your content. I’m “Small Business Stacey”, your Small Biz Marketing Specialist, here to help your business grow to seven figures and more by helping you become a #SmallBizMarketingWiz
