Is your marketing a marathon? Hey, everybody. Small Business Stacey out here taking a walk on this brisk morning. It got me thinking about marathon runners. Marathon runners, to me, are so amazing. They get up and run 26.2 miles. I can’t even run one mile so I have so much respect and appreciation for marathon runners. What does that have to do with you and your marketing? Well, a lot, because here’s what most small business owners do. They try and treat their marketing like a marathon and they’d do email one day and social media marketing the next and then, a month later, they’re doing some content, but it’s not all integrated. It’s just floundering. Then they wonder why they can’t cross the finish line. They’re not happy with their results at the end of the year. If you want to treat your marketing like a marathon, you’ve got to do it by taking small steps.

That’s actually why I’m out here today because, quite honestly, I’m pretty good at marketing. I have figured out how to make it a marathon and cross the finish line, but I’ve let my personal health suffer because of it. I’ve made a commitment to myself that I’m going to get up every day and start walking. Here I am doing that because it’s unrealistic that I’m going to get out of my chair and run 26.2 miles. Here’s what you can do in your small business. Start small. Take those baby steps. Commit to doing, let’s say, one type of marketing, email marketing. Get those pieces in place and do it consistently, day after day. Then, once you have the systems and the processes in place, it’s much easier to add another component like social or content or video. It’s unrealistic that, right out of the gate, you’re going to be able to do it all. Share with me what your first baby step is going to be so that you can have a marketing marathon.
