Do you just love ’em, but then leave ’em?

New, new, new. More, more, more. Seems that that’s what every small business owner I talk to wants. More new business. I get it, but here’s the reality. You have a pot of gold sitting in front of you, the low hanging fruit of the customers, clients and patients that you’ve already built a relationship with. So today I’m gonna share with you three low-cost ways to nurture that relationship. Because as my dad says, “it’s cheaper to keep her.”

All right, three ways. Number one, send a handwritten note. How simple is that? People love and appreciate getting things actually in their mailbox. It’ll make you stand out because nobody else is doing it.

Get closer than ever to your customers. So close that you tell them what they need well before they realize it themselves.

Tip number two, send little gifts throughout the year. In my coffee and smoothie business, I’ll send something like a flip-flop notepad or a tiki cup. This works really well because it’s lumpy, it sticks out and these are the kind of things that people will keep in front of them and remember you all the time. So there are tons of promotional products that you can put your name and logo on and it’s a great way to stay front of mind.

The third tip, probably the most important, is this thing, called a phone. Pick it up, call your current customers, clients, and patients and have a real conversation. Welcome them on board, call just to say hello and see what’s going on in their life. They will probably be shocked to have just a real common conversation. It will do wonders for your business.

So what are you going to do to nurture customer relationships so that you’re not just loving them and then leaving them?
