How can you be social and efficient at the same time? Let’s talk about it.

Hey everybody, if you’re like most small business owners that I talk to you know you need to be on social media but it’s such a time suck, right? There’s all these different social media platforms and you got to log into one, log out, log into another, log out. How can you effectively and efficiently manage your time when you want to be on social? I’m going to share with you today a tool that I use for all of my clients that helps me manage social media for listening, for engaging and for posting. That tool is called Hootsuite. Let me show you how it works.

When you go to Hootsuite, and I’m just going to log in to my dashboard here, Hootsuite allows you to set up streams. Each of these columns here is called a stream that you set up for each of your social media accounts. You can decide what you want to look at for each of those social media platforms. Across the tabs here are the different clients for whom I manage social media.

For example, if we look at Kapo Trading I can in one glance see what’s going on with Twitter. I can see what’s going on with Facebook. I can see what’s going on with Pinterest. It’s an easy way to get a glance of what’s going on with all the social media.

Nothing is impossible, the word itself says “I’m possible”!

For example here, in Facebook, I can look at my timeline. I’ve got it setup to pull in based on different keywords content that would be very easy for me to curate. I can see the messages that I have here, so I can very easily in one place engage.

Let me go back to Twitter and I’ll show you, on Twitter I have it setup so I can see my timeline and anyone that mentions me. So I can immediately like, retweet, reply back, I can see who my new followers are. It’s very easy to add a stream and add a social network, and you can customize what you want to track on each social platform.

You can also schedule your posts in here, so you don’t have to be on a social media platform every single day posting stuff out. What you do is you click this little publish button, you pick the account or the social platform that you want to post to, whether it’s Twitter or Facebook, whatever it is. You put your message in here.

Let’s for example say I’m posting something for Dolce and Bean. This is their Twitter, this is their Facebook. You can actually pin it to the top so it’s right there. I’ll just say, “Testing.” The nice thing is that if you have a long link, it tells you how many characters you have. I know you guys know that Twitter definitely has a character limit. So let’s say you have a long URL. Let me go to their page. Let’s say I wanted to share something that’s on their catering and events page. This URL is very long, so I can paste it in here and very easily shorten it. It creates what’s called an Ow.ly link. It saves me a lot of character space.

It will pull in some basic information, you can choose if you want to use that, or you can click the button here to upload your own image. The nice thing is that you can schedule this out. You can pick the day and the time and you schedule it. The nice thing is that I have staff who go in and manage many of my clients’ social media. They’ll go in and they’ll schedule the posts and then a manager or myself can go in and see what’s being scheduled and make sure that they look good, the posts look good, the timing, et cetera, et cetera.

Hootsuite is a great tool that allows you to be social and efficiently use your time. I’m not an affiliate. I don’t get anything from referring them to you, but I would encourage you to take a look at Hootsuite. It’s a great tool for social media.

I’d love to know what you think. What tools do you use to leverage your time in social media? Share or comment below.
