Seriously, after you watch this video, go to your website and look at your about page. Now yes, it says about us, about me. Right? So, it’s all brag brag, I I I, we we we, been in business 300 years. You know what? Nobody cares. Just the other day, if you’ve been following me you know that I have a coffee and smoothie business, my trailer broke down and I had to bring it into the shop to have it repaired. And I love taking it to this place for two reasons. One is it’s a small family run business, which I’m passionate about. And two, it’s owned by a woman, which is very unique in fixing trailers and that type of hard rigged type of equipment.

And I always ask her how things are going. And you could kind of tell that things weren’t so great. But she was like, oh, I’m not worried about it. After all, we’ve been in business 40 years. And I was like wow. You know what? That’s not gonna bring you new customers and nobody cares that you’ve been in business for 40 years. So, when you come to think about your copywriting, it can’t be all about you. You have to make it in regard to what’s … answer the question with them … what’s in it for them? What’s in it for your customer, the client, the patient, the donor, whoever you serve?

Now, when doing your copywriting, if you think of it more as storytelling, you’ll get a lot farther. So the lady who owns the trailer fixing company, if instead of focusing on I’ve been in business for 40 years. If she shared her story of how she grew up in a male dominated industry and she grew up as this little kid working on trailers, and sharing the story … many more people would resonate with that and want to do business with her. Now, I had to learn how to change my copywriting in my coffee and smoothie business, because I’m … you know in a commodity business. I’m competing with Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Smoothie King and, as a little guy, I couldn’t do that. So, I had to change a commodity into an experience.

So, instead of saying we do catering. We transformed it into an experience of offering the alternate Hawaiian getaway without a 12 hour flight. Instead of saying oh yeah, we come in and we serve smoothies. We told a story. We’re gonna come in and set up a tiki bar, where professional tiki tenders wearing bright Hawaiian shirts will come in and blend gourmet all natural fresh fruit smoothies for your guests, made fresh to order, and topped off with a Hawaiian parasol. Your guests will be so happy, they could do the hula. So, in that case, I’m telling a story. I’m guiding people and visitors through what they’re gonna experience when they book our coffee and smoothie catering services. It’s no longer a commodity. People want it.

So, when you think about doing your copywriting get away from yourself. Think about what your customers, clients and patients are saying about you and all the great things that you do. And turn that into a story … and tell that story. People will resonate with it and wanna do business with you.
