Today we’ll cover element number 15, core services. Most small businesses make it really hard to find what the user is looking for. You want to showcase your core products and services right there on the homepage, so the user knows that they’re in the right place. Let’s look at how you can incorporate your core services element into your homepage.

Most businesses do more than just one thing. Let’s look at some examples of sites that do a great job of showcasing their core products and services on the homepage, without overwhelming their visitors. First is Solitude Landscaping. They have it nailed. On the slider, they start broad by showing that they do residential landscaping. Then as you scroll down, they then feature images of the different core services: hardscaping, maintenance, and installation. Then a little further down, they mention the specific services. It’s like a funnel where they’re starting broad at the top, and then getting more specific the further down the page someone goes. By putting all of these services on the homepage, it also gives them an added SEO boost, so great job here.

Now, Solitude is a service-based company. Marucci Sports is a product-based company. They sell bats. On the top of their homepage, it showcases their feature product. Then as you scroll down are different bats and sporting accessories that someone may be interested in. Then below that, it gets even into more specific kinds of bats. It’s like the site is walking the visitor through a store. When you first come in it’s very broad, but then as you go further into the store, you see the different options available and you can hone in on exactly what you want. That’s the experience you want to provide to your users. Both of these companies do a great job of showcasing their core products and services on the homepage and encouraging visitors to stay and learn more.

Don’t make users click around trying to find the products and services that they’re looking for. Make sure your core services are featured on your homepage. Your users will thank you, and you’ll also get an SEO boost from it.
