Here’s the transcript:

Hey everybody, Small Business Stacey here. Two words for you today, screw new. No, I didn’t say screw you. I said screw new. There are way too many supposed gurus out there preaching new, new, new. Look, I’m here to tell you there is no new. Think about it. Facebook advertising is really nothing more than a digital version of a Yellow Page ads. Instagram is really nothing more than a digital magazine. Podcasts are nothing more than a radio show and Google Adwords is nothing more than your newspaper ads.  There’s nothing truly new, but these gurus want you to think so. Why? So that you buy their programs.

I encourage my clients to just stop chasing shiny objects and pick one, two, maybe three core marketing tactics that you want to focus on and usually it’s not online marketing. I’m having tremendous success and leveraging the power of events, going out, doing speaking engagements, shaking hands, meeting people. I am seeing a 300% ROI from being able to do this versus your typical online marketing. I encourage you to go out there and take your business to the people. It really is a game-changer.

Be brave enough to turn away from shiny objects, and toward the light that makes them shine.

See the key difference is it’s not about having a big list. I would actually challenge you to have a small list, a few people who are so committed and devoted to you that they will follow you to the ends of the Earth. And that kind of marketing doesn’t require anything new. It’s just about being yourself, sharing your brilliance and being a go-giver, helping those people solve their problems and their pains.

So stop chasing supposed the gurus who are preaching new, new, new. It’s nothing more than shiny objects syndrome and it will not help your business grow.

Love to hear your thoughts on this from Stacey’s soapbox rant today.
